Building a Healthy Future Through the Parenting for Stunting Prevention Programs

The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Regional Centre for Early Childhood Care and Education and Parenting (SEAMEO CECCEP) remained committed to shaping a generation that grew optimally and healthily. One proactive step taken was the prevention of stunting through a parenting approach. This information was conveyed by Irfan Ansori, Head of the Research and Development Division of SEAMEO CECCEP, during a talk show held on Radio Sonata on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

SEAMEO CECCEP played a crucial role in addressing the issue of stunting. In this context, SEAMEO CECCEP was mandated by the government to tackle stunting through an indirect approach, including changes in clean and healthy living behaviors and early parenting practices.

During his interview, Irfan Ansori provided profound insights into the Program Parenting for Stunting Prevention (PPSP). Stunting prevention through parenting, involved parents to raise awareness of their crucial role in preventing stunting. Parents were encouraged to adopt parenting styles that supported optimal child growth, including providing a balanced nutritional intake and creating a clean and healthy environment.

Mr. Irfan Ansori also explained that SEAMEO CECCEP, as part of the Indonesian Ministry of Education's organization, had regional coverage. The vision of SEAMEO CECCEP was to become a center of excellence in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) and Parenting, with a primary focus on research and development.

Mr. Ansori outlined that SEAMEO CECCEP had three core divisions. The first division, Research and Development, focused on research, studies, and development in ECCE and parenting. The second division concentrated on enhancing the capacity of teachers, parents, and other aspects. Meanwhile, the Advocacy and Partnership Division was responsible for seeking, evaluating, and establishing strategic partnerships with government, non-governmental, and private sector organizations aligned with SEAMEO CECCEP's goals. The Knowledge Management Division had tasks related to publication, socialization, and dissemination of knowledge, while actively engaging in it.

With various divisions and a comprehensive approach, SEAMEO CECCEP dedicated itself to generating evidence-based recommendations and solutions not only at the national level but also contributing to regional understanding of optimizing child growth and preventing stunting.

The Program Parenting for Stunting Prevention (PPSP) SEAMEO CECCEP marked a progressive step towards realizing a healthy and happy future for the upcoming generation. By involving parents as agents of change, PPSP laid a strong foundation for preventing stunting and shaping a resilient generation.
