Jakarta, 15 May 2025. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the SEAMEO Secretariat, has successfully completed the development of the Roadmap on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Southeast Asia. This strategic document aims to strengthen ECCE systems across the region and ensure the provision of high-quality early childhood education—recognized as a critical foundation for sustainable human resource development.
Dr. Gogot Suharwoto, Director General of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Secondary Education, emphasized the importance of integrating digital elements into early childhood learning and aligning these innovations with national funding policies. He also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration among Southeast Asian countries to collectively improve ECCE delivery and outcomes.
Prof. Vina Adriany, M.Ed., Ph.D., Director of SEAMEO CECCEP, noted that the roadmap is designed to expand access and improve the quality of ECCE services through systematic planning, effective monitoring, and continuous evaluation. She further underscored the vital role of collaboration among schools, families, local governments, and communities in supporting an inclusive and seamless transition for children from early childhood education to primary school.
Dr. Nia Nurhasanah, Director of Early Childhood Education, explained that the roadmap builds upon the outcomes of the SEA PD on ECCE, which led to the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Early Childhood Care and Education at the 2023 ASEAN Summit. She expressed optimism that the roadmap will serve as a strategic reference to strengthen cross-country collaboration in delivering sustainable and high-quality ECCE services.
Indonesia’s leadership in developing this roadmap reflects the region’s trust in its commitment to advancing early childhood education and fostering regional cooperation in this crucial sector.
