Jakarta, Indonesia – 10 April 25 — The President of the SEAMEO Council, His Excellency Mr. Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara, conducted a working visit to the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, accompanied by SEAMEO Secretariat Director Datuk Dr. Habibah Abdul Rahim and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MoPSE) of Indonesia, Mrs. Suharti, M.A., Ph.D.
Also attending were the directors of the seven SEAMEO Regional Centres in Indonesia. The visit aimed to observe the progress of SEAMEO programme implementation in Indonesia and to strengthen support and collaboration among SEAMEO member countries. Each centre presented its key programmes and achievements during the session.
A major highlight of the discussions was the development of the SEAMEO-ASEAN Joint Roadmap on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Southeast Asia. The roadmap, currently being drafted by SEAMEO CECCEP, is a follow-up to the 2023 ASEAN Leaders' Declaration on ECCE. The drafting process is being carried out under the guidance of Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and SEAMEO Secretariat.
The visit also featured an exhibition showcasing the work of the seven SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia. Among the booths visited was SEAMEO CECCEP's, which presented its initiatives and contributions to early childhood education in the region.

In the afternoon, Mr. Angara held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia at the ministry’s office on Jl. Sudirman, Jakarta. The meeting focused on strengthening educational cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines and enhancing joint initiatives within the SEAMEO framework. This visit marks a significant step in reinforcing regional partnerships and advancing educational development across Southeast Asia.
