13th ASEAN-SEAMEO Coordination Meeting at ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta
JAKARTA – The ASEAN Secretariat demonstrated its strong commitment to the development of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Southeast Asia by hosting the 13th ASEAN-SEAMEO Coordination Meeting on January 15, 2025. This annual meeting, organized by SEAMEO CECCEP in collaboration with the SEAMEO Secretariat, serves as a vital platform to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and SEAMEO in advancing education across the region, with a primary focus on ECCE.
A key agenda item was the discussion on the development of the SEAMEO-ASEAN Joint Roadmap on ECCE. This initiative responds to the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on ECCE, which emphasizes the importance of investing in the early years of a child’s life. The roadmap will provide a comprehensive guide for ASEAN member states in implementing the declaration, ensuring that every child in the region has access to quality care and education from an early age.
Prof. Vina Adriany, Director of SEAMEO CECCEP, was present at the meeting and provided updates on the roadmap's development. The joint roadmap is not merely a document but a reflection of the genuine commitment of ASEAN and SEAMEO to provide a better future for children in Southeast Asia. With a clear and structured plan, it is expected that the implementation of ECCE programs across the region will be more effective and efficient.
This meeting also served as an important moment to reaffirm that ECCE is a crucial foundation for a child's development. Investing in ECCE benefits not only individuals but also society and the nation as a whole. Children who receive quality education and care from an early age have a greater chance of success in school, in the workplace, and in their lives in general.
With a spirit of cooperation and strong commitment from all relevant parties, ASEAN and SEAMEO continue to strive to realize their vision of creating a brighter and more inclusive future for children throughout Southeast Asia.
