Padang, November 23, 2024 – The Faculty of Education (FIP) at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) hosted the KRIDA 2024 event. This event attended by 1,000 students from various disciplines. The event featured Ith Vuthy M.A, Deputy Director for Program at SEAMEO CECCEP, as the keynote speaker. He delivered a presentation on 21st Century Skills and the importance of a growth mindset for the younger generation.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Afdal, M.Pd., KONs, Dean of FIP UNP, expressed his appreciation for Ith Vuthy's participation. "We hope students will take this opportunity to gain valuable insights for their personal and career development in the future," he said.
Ith Vuthy began his presentation by emphasizing the strategic role of Indonesia's youth in the nation's development. "The structure of Indonesia's population, dominated by young people, is a great strength. The youth must be equipped with 21st Century Skills to compete globally," he explained.
The Difference Between Growth Mindset and Fixed Mindset
One key point raised by Ith Vuthy was the distinction between growth mindset and fixed mindset. He explained that a fixed mindset views intelligence and abilities as innate qualities that cannot be changed, leading individuals to avoid challenges and give up easily when faced with difficulties. In contrast, a growth mindset believes that abilities can be developed through effort, learning, and experience, making individuals more open to challenges and constructive criticism.
21st Century Skills: A Key Asset for the Younger Generation
Ith Vuthy also stressed the importance of mastering 21st Century Skills, which include:
• Basic Literacy: Skills in reading, writing, arithmetic, and science.
• Digital Literacy: Proficiency in information and communication technology.
• Financial Literacy: Understanding of financial management.
• Cultural and Citizenship Literacy: Awareness of cultural diversity and the role of global citizenship.
As a representative of SEAMEO CECCEP, Ith Vuthy also expressed his hopes for the continued collaboration between SEAMEO CECCEP and UNP. "We hope this partnership will further strengthen the role of educational institutions in preparing a competent, character-driven, and globally competitive generation," he said.
The KRIDA event, designed as a basic creativity training for new students, serves as a crucial foundation for the development of UNP students' competencies. With its inspirational content, the event aims to offer new perspectives to students in facing the challenges of the modern era.
Through KRIDA 2024, UNP reaffirms its commitment to producing a generation of young people who are ready to contribute to the nation's development with insight, creativity, and exceptional skills.
