SEAMEO CECCEP explored cooperation with the Department of Community Education, University of Education Indonesia

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Early Childhood Care, Education and Parenting (SEAMEO CECCEP) received a special visit from the Department of Community Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia on 21 September 2023 at the SEAMEO CECCEP Conference Room, Bandung. The meeting aimed to explore the potential for cooperation in efforts to improve early childhood education and community education in Indonesia.

The visit was led by the Head of the Community Education Department, Dr. Yanti Shantini, M.Pd, who was accompanied by Dr. Dadang Yunus Lutfiansyah, M.Pd, Secretary of the Community Education Department, Deti Nudiati, M.Pd Lecturer in Community Education, and Hiromu Inoue, a student from Tohoku University. Their presence at SEAMEO CECCEP created a valuable moment in expanding cooperation in the field of early childhood education and community education.

In a lively meeting, both institutions discussed various potential aspects of cooperation. One of the main focussed on the development of training programs for Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers and community educators. Such programs are expected to provide opportunities for educators to gain in-depth understanding and skills needed to support early childhood education and drive the role of education in the community. Currently in Indonesia, most early childhood teachers come from posyandu cadres, so they need a program to improve their competence in teaching. On the other hand, this collaboration can later support the Merdeka Learning Campus (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) program.

Dr. Yanti Shantini, Head of the Department of Community Education, stated, "Collaboration with SEAMEO CECCEP is an important step in developing education in Indonesia, especially at the early childhood and community education levels. We very much look forward to utilizing SEAMEO CECCEP's experience and resources to achieve our common goal of delivering quality education."

Prof. Vina Adriany, Ph.D, Director of SEAMEO CECCEP, welcomed the visit from the Department of Community Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, and emphasized the importance of collaboration in improving the quality of education. "We are very open to establishing fruitful cooperation in order to create a better educational environment for children and communities in Indonesia. By sharing knowledge, experience and resources, we can achieve more," she said.

This visit marked the beginning of a potential collaborative process between SEAMEO CECCEP and the Department of Community Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Both institutions hope that this collaboration will bring significant positive impacts in the world of early childhood education and community education in Indonesia, and help create a brighter future for the next generation.
