On August 4, 2023, SEAMEO CECCEP conducted a virtual discussion through a Zoom meeting. A strategic discussion between SEAMEO CECCEP, Cambodia's Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), and Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC). The meeting discussed and formulated joint education initiatives to improve the quality of early childhood education and teacher education in Cambodia.
The collaboration between SEAMEO CECCEP, MoEYS Cambodia, and PTEC is a step forward in supporting the improvement of the quality of education in Cambodia, especially on the establishment of an undergraduate ECE study program in Cambodia.
H.E Prak Kosal, Deputy Secretary-General of NC-ECCD Director of the Early Childhood Education Department, Cambodia), said that this discussion is an important step to create synergy between institutions to improve early childhood education and enhance the quality of teacher education in Cambodia.
H.E Dr. Set Seng, Director of Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC), welcomed this collaborative initiative for the establishment of an Early Childhood bachelor's degree in Cambodia. The collaboration with SEAMEO CECCEP and MoEYS is a valuable opportunity to strengthen teacher education programs and expand the reach of quality improvement of early childhood educators in Cambodia.
"Together, we will create quality education that positively impacts the growth and development of children in our country, said H.E Dr. Set Seng."
During the virtual meeting, Prof. Vina Adriany, P.hD Director of SEAMEO CECCEP explained the timeline for the establishment of the Bachelor of Early Childhood program in Cambodia. She also said that this cooperation will go through various initiative programs such as Workshop on ECCE curriculum development, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on ECCE curriculum development, Personnel development workshop for lecturers, Study Visit for early childhood education programs in Indonesia.
With a high spirit of cooperation, the strategic discussions between SEAMEO CECCEP, MoEYS Cambodia, and PTEC are expected to create concrete steps and innovative educational programs to bring positive changes to the Cambodian education sector.
