SEAMEO CECCEP and Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) Collaborated on Qualitative Research Workshop

To enhance understanding and skills in qualitative research, SEAMEO CECCEP collaborated with Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) to organize a Qualitative Research Workshop. This qualitative research workshop became an interactive forum where participants delved into the concepts and methods of qualitative research. The workshop was designed to broaden participants' understanding of a more in-depth research approach, focusing on interpretation and providing a clearer picture of the complexity of the phenomena under investigation (24/10/2023).

The Director of SEAMEO CECCEP served as the main speaker in the workshop attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Education at UNP, Prof Dr. Afdal, M. Pd Kons. His presence and all the staff were greeted with high enthusiasm. Also present were Vice Rector 1, Dr. Refnaldi, S. Pd, M. Lit, and the Head of the S1 PSDKU program.

Dr. Refnaldi, S. Pd, M. Lit expressed his joy and appreciation for the collaboration, especially in the study of Ethnoparenting among the Minangkabau Tribe. Discussions also focused on the potential collaboration and cooperation between SEAMEO CECCEP, FIP PG PAUD, and the Master's Program in PG PAUD.

After the welcoming activities, the workshop continued with the Qualitative Research Workshop involving PSDKU, FIP, Universitas Negeri Padang, and SEAMEO CECCEP. The official opening was conducted by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs UNP, the Dean of FIP, the Chair of the Master's Program in PG PAUD, and the Chair of the PSDKU Program.

Prof. Vina Adriany, Ph.D., the Director of SEAMEO CECCEP, provided an introduction to qualitative research, explaining the philosophical background and the development of qualitative research as a critique of quantitative research. The workshop sessions also included explanations about ethnography and data analysis in qualitative research.

The discussion session gained high enthusiasm, especially in the discussion of the implementation of qualitative research. With the participation of 30 attendees, including professors and students from UNP, this event became a significant milestone in the development of knowledge and skills in qualitative research in the field of education.

After the successful workshop, SEAMEO CECCEP proceeded with the signing of a collaboration agreement with Universitas Negeri Padang. This collaboration document outlined commitments to community service in the field of Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) and parenting. Additionally, the collaboration included the organization of various activities such as training, seminars, symposiums, workshops, international conferences, and guided discussions. On the other hand, this collaboration also aimed to develop joint networks on a regional, national, and international scale.

With this collaboration in place, it is hoped that Universitas Negeri Padang will actively participate in research and the development of ECCE and parenting models in the future. The established collaboration is expected to make a positive contribution to improving the quality of early childhood education and providing better support to parents in understanding and nurturing the development of young children.

The close collaboration between SEAMEO CECCEP and UNP marked a progressive step in supporting the development of education in Indonesia, particularly in the context of Early Childhood Education. The visit from SEAMEO CECCEP was not only for a qualitative workshop but also included training for Enumerators and Data Collection in Ethnoparenting among the Minangkabau Tribe in 2023.
