On 14th May 2024, the Director of
SEAMEO CECCEP, Prof. Vina Adriany, served as a panelist at the Southeast Asia
Regional Forum on Ensuring Equal Access to Quality Early Childhood Development
and Care, which was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR. This pivotal event aimed to
address and strategize improvements in early childhood education and care
(ECCE) across Southeast Asia.
The forum, which was inaugurated
in the Lao capital, convened key stakeholders to discuss various strategies for
enhancing the quality of early childhood education. The event highlighted the
importance of learning from one another to better the development of children
and meet socio-economic development goals by 2030. "This meeting served as
a platform for participants to learn from each other about early childhood care
and education, ultimately benefiting our children's development and aligning with
the country's socio-economic development plans for 2030," stated
Siphaphone Manivanh, Director General of the Department of Early Childhood
Education under the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos.
Key topics discussed included
improving transitions from preschool to primary school, financing early
childhood education and care, and various other aspects of ECCE. The forum
featured notable speakers such as Mr. Nyi Thaung and Kyungah Bang from UNESCO
Bangkok, who spoke on "Strengthening ECCE Financing in the Asia-Pacific
Region," and Ms. Mitsue Uemura from UNICEF, who elaborated on "Laying
the Foundation through Early Childhood Care and Education."
Prof. Vina Adriany's
participation underscored SEAMEO CECCEP's commitment to fostering regional
cooperation and sharing best practices in ECCE. Her insights and expertise
contributed significantly to the discussions, emphasizing the critical need for
equitable access to quality education for young children.
This forum represented a
significant step towards achieving comprehensive and inclusive early childhood
education and care across Southeast Asia, aligning with broader regional and
global educational objectives. The collaborative efforts and shared knowledge
from this event are expected to drive substantial progress in ECCE, benefiting
