Annual Early Childhood Education and Parenting Regional Forum on holistic integrated ECCE and a Follow Up Plan For ASEAN Declaration on ECCE

SEAMEO CECCEP in collaboration with Tanoto Foundation organized the Annual Early Childhood Education and Parenting Regional. The 3rd Annual Early Childhood Education and Parenting Regional Forum was themed "Holistic Integrated ECCE and a Follow-Up Plan For ASEAN Declaration on ECCE. This forum took place on October 11, 2023 at Swiss-Belhotel Rainforest, Bali. The forum was attended by approximately 120 participants from around the world. Participants attended this forum online and offline. Guest speakers included Prof. Maki Hayashikawa from the UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Jakarta, Ms. Amalia Serrano from the ASEAN Secretariat, Prof. Mercedes Mayol Lassalle from OMEP WORD, Ms. Komalasari, M.Pd, Nurhaida from the Department of Education and Culture Paniani Papua, Suratno, S.Pd, MM from the Education Office of Banyuwangi, Eddy Henry from the Head of Policy Advocacy of Tanoto Foundation.

The forum also brought together a wide range of stakeholders with a strong interest in early childhood, such as SEAMEO CECCEP Board Members, national and local governments, practitioners, national and regional development partners, and academics. The discussions were expected to support the improvement of the quality of HI ECD services in Southeast Asia using the framework of the themes of the declaration adopted at the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on September 5-7, 2023. The declaration calls for the importance of collaboration to strengthen sustainable partnerships and cooperation between governments and civil society, international organizations, academic institutions, philanthropic organizations, and the private sector.

Prof. Vina Adriany said that it was important to strengthen cooperation to support the formation of an ecosystem that supports early childhood to grow and develop optimally. Optimal growth and development will be the foundation for future individual development, and promote greater social equality. In addition, early childhood development services must also be ensured as inclusive, quality, holistic and integrated services in various programs to meet the essential needs of early childhood, including how to provide facilities and infrastructure that are friendly and according to the needs of children and support the welfare of teachers.

Prof. Warsito, representative of the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, emphasized that this forum is very important in creating a framework to advance early childhood education and parenting in the future of the nation. This Regional Forum is an effort to promote strong partnerships to meet the essential needs of early childhood in aspects of health, nutrition, education, care, protection and child welfare in the Southeast Asia region. 

In his closing remarks Prof. Amich Alhumami, Deputy for Human Development, Society and Culture at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas of the Republic of Indonesia, also highlighted the importance of collaboration between governments, civil society, international organizations, academic institutions, philanthropic institutions, and the private sector in improving the quality of ECD services in Southeast Asia.
