Fulfillment of Children's Rights in the Transition from Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) to Primary School: An Enjoyable Experience

Recently, from June 3rd to 5th, 2024, the BPMP of East Nusa Tenggara Province organized the “Gebyar Transisi PAUD ke SD yang menyenangkan” in NTT. The event was attended by various notable figures, including Madam Komalasari, M.Pd, Director of Early Childhood Education, MoECRT as well as PAUD lady Ambasador, the NTT Department of Education, and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Additionally, the Head of the NTT Provincial Government also graced the occasion.

A significant session during the event was a discussion on the fulfillment of children's rights in the transition from ECE to primary school, facilitated by the SEAMEO CECCEP team. Led by Mr. Ith Vuthy, M.A, Asep Subagja, S.Pd., Rizal Nugraha, M.Pd, and Assila Prianggi, M.Ed, the discussion highlighted the importance of fulfilling children's rights, encompassing three main aspects: protection, provision, and participation.

During their presentation, Mr. Ith Vuthy and Assila Prianggi, M.Ed emphasized that honoring children's voices is crucial in the context of protection, provision, and participation. In terms of protection, listening to and valuing children's opinions aids in understanding and addressing issues they face, such as bullying or violence, thus enabling better protection. Regarding provision, understanding children's needs and desires through open communication ensures that appropriate facilities and services are provided for their development, be it in education, health, or social welfare.

Meanwhile, children's participation in decision-making processes not only teaches them about responsibility and rights but also encourages them to become active and caring citizens in the future. Therefore, honoring children's voices is a crucial aspect contributing to their safety, well-being, and holistic development.

The fulfillment of children's rights is closely related to the transition from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Primary School, as these rights ensure that children receive the support they need to thrive when entering formal education. With the fulfillment of children's rights, the transition from ECE to SD can become an enjoyable and supportive experience, allowing children to grow and learn in a safe, healthy, and participatory environment.

The Gebyar PAUD in NTT 2024 has created significant momentum to strengthen the commitment of all stakeholders in supporting and fulfilling children's rights, aiming to create a better and more competitive generation in the future.
