The signing of the Cooperation Agreement Between SEAMEO CECCEP and the Purwakarta Education Office: Improving the Quality of Early Childhood Care Education

Purwakarta, 30 May 2024 – SEAMEO CECCEP (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting) officially established a partnership with the Purwakarta Education Office in an effort to improve the quality of Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE). The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was carried out by Dr. H. Purwanto, S.Pd, M.Pd, Head of the Purwakarta Education Office, and Prof. Vina Adriany, Ph.D., Director of SEAMEO CECCEP. The event was also witnessed by several important officials from the Education Office, including Sadiyah, S.Pd, M.Pd, Secretary of the Education Office, Aries Rapelianto, ST, M.Pd, Junior Expert Planner, Nurdhania Rahayu, Head of the Finance Subdivision, as well as ECCE teachers and school principals throughout Purwakarta.

In her speech, Prof. Vina Adriany emphasized the importance of early childhood care education as a foundation for future primary and secondary education. "Every child should receive holistic and integrative services (HI-ECD). And it takes the entire community to raise a child," said Prof. Vina, highlighting the importance of synergy in developing early childhood education.

The responsibility for raising and educating children did not only lie with the parents but also required the involvement of the entire community or society around them. This included extended family, neighbors, teachers, and other community members who all played a role in supporting the development and well-being of children.

Children needed broad support from various parties to grow and develop well. Collaboration among various community members could provide a richer and more diverse environment for children's learning and life experiences. Every individual in the community had an important role in the education and upbringing of children.

The Head of the Purwakarta Education Office, Dr. H. Purwanto, welcomed this partnership as a golden opportunity to improve the quality of teachers in Purwakarta. "This collaboration is a good initial step for the Education Office to enhance the quality of teachers. Hopefully, this partnership can continue into future programs where our teachers can learn from ECCE practices in other countries," said Dr. Purwanto optimistically.

The signing of this MoU became an important milestone in the efforts of the Purwakarta Education Office to strengthen the capacity and capability of PAUD teachers, so that they could provide better education in accordance with international standards. This collaboration was expected to bring positive impacts not only for teachers, but also for the entire Purwakarta community involved in early childhood education.

The partnership between SEAMEO CECCEP and the Purwakarta Education Office was also expected to pave the way for various other initiatives that supported the improvement of education quality at both local and regional levels.
