An Initiative by SEAMEO CECCEP in Collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, Kingdom of Cambodia. As part of its commitment to advancing quality and equitable early childhood education (ECE) across Southeast Asia, SEAMEO CECCEP initiated the development of a Bachelor’s degree program in Early Childhood Education in Cambodia. This effort was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport (MoEYS) of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
he initiative is driven by the pressing need to improve the qualifications and competencies of ECE teachers in Cambodia, where most current educators lack formal academic training in the field. According to data from 2021–2022, Cambodia has over 8,000 ECE centers, yet still faces shortages in both access and professional capacity.
Aligned with SEAMEO Priority Area No. 1 on Early Childhood Care and Education and Priority Area No. 6 on Promoting Harmonization in Higher Education and Research, this initiative also supports SDG 4.2 by enhancing the number and quality of trained ECE teachers through international collaboration.
