Sumba Timur, June 4-6, 2024 – The Directorate of Early Childhood Education, in collaboration with SEAMEO CECCEP, the Sumba Timur District Government, and BPMP of East Nusa Tenggara Province, held a technical guidance event to enhance the quality of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) and prepare a smooth and enjoyable transition from ECCE to Elementary School. The event took place from June 4 to 6, 2024, and was attended by educators, educational stakeholders, and local officials.

The event was opened by the Regional Secretary of Sumba Timur, Umbu Ngadu Ndamu, SH., M.Si., who in his speech emphasized the importance of fulfilling four key elements of quality early childhood education: quality of teachers and educational staff, relevant and enjoyable curriculum, safe and child-friendly learning environment, and active participation of parents and the community. "Our children must feel comfort and happiness in their learning process from an early age. We must ensure that they receive the best education and a smooth transition to elementary school," said Umbu Ngadu Ndamu.

This technical guidance activity also developed six fundamental foundations needed to prepare children for the transition from PAUD to SD: social and emotional skills, language and literacy skills, cognitive and critical thinking skills, physical health and fitness, self-awareness and understanding, and artistic and creative skills.

The closing event was attended by the Secretary of the Education Office, Yosias Benyamin Pura, S.Sos., who emphasized the importance of the program's sustainability. "We must ensure that this technical guidance program does not stop here. Early grade elementary school teachers throughout Sumba Timur District need to continue receiving support and training to maintain the quality of our children's education," he said.

The chairman of this activity, Head of Early Childhood Education Fritz Landukara, S.Sos., expressed his gratitude to all parties involved. "The strong cooperation between SEAMEO CECCEP, the Regional Government, and BPMP of East Nusa Tenggara Province is the key to the success of this activity. We hope this program can have a lasting positive impact on the education of children in Sumba Timur," he said.

Through this technical guidance, SEAMEO CECCEP hoped to promote the enhancement of early childhood education quality in Sumba Timur and ensure an enjoyable transition from PAUD to SD, enabling children to grow and learn happily.
