Enhancing English Proficiency: SEAMEO CECCEP's USIEL Weekly Activity

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting (SEAMEO CECCEP) held its routine weekly activity to improve the English language skills of the staff with Upgrade Skills in English Language, abbreviated as USIEL. This time USIEL was held on Monday, April 30, 2024 at the SEAMEO CECCEP Auditorium.

Each staff was given the opportunity to present their skills in English. On this occasion, Mr. Paison and Ms. Fatima were the presenters. Mr. Paison presented his experience working at SEAMEO CECCEP using English assisted by his English teacher. While Ms. Fatima, as an officer from the Research and Development division, explained about her interest in parenthood and children for her research. As a graduate from Monash University, and a very experienced person in the field she presented, she delivered a very good and fluent presentation.

In addition to the presenters, staff and interns were given the opportunity to practice their English speaking skills by becoming MCs and moderators. They were trained to be able to host and organize the event in English. USIEL was closed with a questions and answer session.

There was an interesting question to Mrs. Fatima about what a younger sibling should do to help remind her brother who will soon marry young, about parental responsibilities. The answer from Mrs. Fatima was also very wise. As a younger sibling, you may feel worried about your older sibling. The best thing to do is to try to remind him and in a fun way. For example, by sending posts on social media related to this matter. Because his brother as an adult must also understand the responsibilities that will be carried in the future.

The implementation of this USIEL program in addition to practicing English speaking skills also made the event participants gain new knowledge about the things presented in the presentation. See you next session!
