Siem Reap, February 23, 2024 - The Sokha Siem Reap Resort & Convention Centre in Siem Reap hosted a significant gathering as stakeholders from across Southeast Asia attended the High-Level Regional Conference on Foundational Learning. With the theme "Translating Data to Action High level policy Exchange: Accelerating Foundational Learning in Southeast Asia," the event was organized by UNICEF, SEAMEO Secretariat, ASEAN Secretariat, UNICEF EAPRO, AKCF (ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund), and SEA-PLM (Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics). The conference aimed to fostered a high-level policy exchange to accelerate foundational learning in the region.
Distinguished speakers, including
the Director of SEAMEO CECCEP, Prof. Vina Adriany, PhD, took the stage during
various sessions, shedding light on critical issues. Prof. Vina, representing
SEAMEO CECCEP, a center dedicated to early childhood care education and
parenting, shared insights during Session 4, focusing on "Optimizing the
early years and ensuring school safety." This topic aligned with SEAMEO
CECCEP's core mission and underscored the region's commitment to nurturing a
supportive environment for early childhood development.
In her speech, she presented some
of the initiatives taken by SEAMEO CECCEP to support the development of ECCE
provision in Southeast Asia, specifically in Indonesia. She highlighted the
need for the government to invest more in ECCE and to develop more collaboration.
She also highlighted access to ECCE as the right of every child.
The conference provided a
platform for robust discussions and knowledge sharing, with participants
exchanging ideas on leveraging data-driven approaches to enhance foundational
learning outcomes. By emphasizing actionable strategies, the conference aimed
to drive tangible progress in education across Southeast Asia. As the event
concluded, stakeholders were poised to implement the insights gained, paving
the way for a brighter future for children in the region through enhanced
foundational learning initiatives.
