Bandung- 25 July 2022 The celebration of the 5th SEAMEO CECCEP anniversary event was very lively. SEAMEO CECCEP had an International Webinar on Early Childhood Education and Sustainable Development Goals by a hybrid meeting. Advisory boards of SEAMEO CECCEP, all Directors of 7 SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia (SEAMEO BIOTROP, SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, SEAMEO RECFON, SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics, SEAMEO QITEP in Science, SEAMEO QITEP in Language) attended this event.
The international webinar was opened by Ir. Haris Iskandar PhD from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Republic of Indonesia. He congratulated SEAMEO CECCEP for contributing to the development of early childhood education and parenting. In the future, SEAMEO CECCEP must continue to serve in improving the quality of early childhood education both in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia.
Furthermore, it was followed by a warm welcome from Prof. Vina Adriany, M.Ed., Ph.D as Director of SEAMEO CECCEP. Prof. Vina expressed her gratitude for the presence of guests and partners during the birthday celebration. "I would like to thank the guests who were pleased to attend the 5th anniversary of SEAMEO CECCEP. Through international conference activities, we can share information related to early childhood education and parenting.”
In the first session, Dr. Kritsachai Somsaman (Deputy Director of Administration and Communication, SEAMEO Secretariat) presented SEAMEO policy and consideration in carrying out SDGs on ECCE in Southeast Asia.. He mentioned that in line with SEAMEO's goal of achieving universal ECCE, we must ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all children.
Then in the next session Prof. Dr. Sofia Hartati, M.Si. brought Early Childhood Education and SDGs into the spotlight. She explained that the problems faced by children should benefit from an effective and inclusive learning environment, but the fact is that 30% of children do not get the benefits of ECCE, 55% of children aged 15 years cannot read well, and 69% achieved low marks in mathematics. Therefore, we must expand access to ECCE services and strengthen pre-schools and build quality ECCE.
Just before the closing ceremony, there was an announcement for winners of the men's/women's futsal and badminton competitions between seven sister centres that took place on Sunday, 24 July 2022. The event was closed by celebration of the SEAMEO CECCEP 5th Anniversary with tumpeng and cake.
