Prof Vina Adriany, Director of SEAMEO CECCEP and Mr Rizal Nugraha, Advocacy and Partnership Officer as SEAMEO Service Awardee, participated in the 52nd SEAMEO Council Conference (SEAMEC), which took place from 7 to 10 February 2023 at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila. This conference was followed by the SEAMEO Service Award, and this year marks its 52nd year of SEAMEO establishment. As one of the major organizations in Southeast Asia, SEAMEO continues to strive for the joint development of local communities to promote quality and a better life through education equivalency, health prevention education, promotion of culture and traditions, information and communication technology, languages, poverty alleviation, agriculture, and natural resources.
SEAMEC is one of the conferences used to establish partnerships and cooperation at the Southeast Asian level, which also presents ministerial leaders from Southeast Asia, SEAMES, SEAMEO Affiliates, SEAMEO Members, Partners, Colleagues, Associations and others. The conference was attended by participants from the Minister of Education, heads of delegations, and senior education officials from 11 SEAMEO Member Countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnamese); representatives from 8 SEAMEO Associate Member Countries; 5 Affiliate Members; and 26 SEAMEO Regional Centers. Through these activities, members of the country's representatives in Southeast Asia have strengthened the bonds of friendship among Southeast Asian countries, promoting regional cooperation and friendship.
In the spirit of SEAMEO's motto, "Leading through Learning", the conference began with a strategic dialogue, then the presentation of SEAMEO service awards to members who have helped promote educational development in each region and have made a significant contribution to the goal of achieving just and sustainable development in the region. The award also recognizes individuals from the region who have promoted international understanding and cooperation among peoples and countries through their contributions to social, economic and cultural development. Hopefully, this contribution will give birth to a more united and peaceful world based on mutual respect and understanding.
The following agenda was a plenary session for the election of the Vice President of the SEAMEO Council and Vice Chair of the 52nd SEAMEO Council Conference and Presentation of the SEAMEO Affiliate Membership Certificate for Southeast Asia One Health University Network (SEAOHUN), which ended with approving SEAOHUN's proclamation as a member of the SEAMEO Affiliate.
