Training for Trainers for Mindfulness and Loving Care (P2K2S) in D.I. Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia

Bandung, 20 July 2022- Southeast Asian Ministers Of Education Organization Center for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting (SEAMEO CECCEP) in collaboration with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), and Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) held a Training for Prospective Trainers on "Mindful and Loving Care” (Pengasuhan Penuh Kesadaran dan Kasih Sayang”. The participants are 37 ECCE teachers in D I. Yogyakarta, Indonesia. These teachers are expected to provide a positive parenting experience to teachers and parents. Later, they can train parents and implement it in their daily lives.

This training started from 18 to 19 July 2022 at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Yogyakarta. The module of this training consists of 6 (six) modules, namely (1) The Nature of "Mindful and Loving Care” (2) Stress in Parenting and Automatic Reactions (3) Sensitivity (4) Mindful and loving speaking and listening (5) Eating mindfully and affectionately (6) Personal hygiene.

Dr. Dody Hartanto, M.Pd as Deputy Dean of Ahmad Dahlan University was very enthusiastic for this training. He hoped that in the future this training can be useful in improving the quality of early childhood education and parenting. In addition, he proposed the continuation of the cooperation between SEAMEO CECCEP and UAD in following up on the implementation of this training.

This training is expected to have follow-up such as monitoring and evaluating assistance in the distribution of P2K2S material to parents under the coordination of SEAMEO CECCEP and UAD Yogyakarta.

Dr. Tina Hayati Dahlan as a resource person said that stress is a reaction to something that is considered a threat. In fact, what we call a threat is not necessarily a threat. Stress can also be referred to as a response to factors from within and from outside. Symptoms can be such as cold sweat, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, etc.

She explained that stress in parenting is normal, but please note that stress is not always a negative thing because it can be managed. The first thing that needs to be done is not to think of parenting as a burden but rather as a challenge of opportunity to learn. Parents need to learn to be patient, problem solving, grateful, and sincere.

When dealing with children, parents occasionally react automatically. Parents often just make fuss about what annoys them without making any point on how the children can understand what they did wrong. That only hurts parents and children as well. But everyone can choose a way to communicate and express affection. Compassionate is a communication option that does not cause hurt because it is full of tenderness and does not hesitate to apologize to the child.

The participants were expected to be trainers after this training. Before they disseminate the training, these trainers are expected to do roleplay. It is hoped that in the future the Mindful and Loving Care Program (P2K2S) will make a real step for parents to improve the quality of parenting to make it even better.
